You’ve spent a cool grand on a new drone (hopefully a DJI Mavic Pro). You’ve practiced around your home and are feeling confident. Now it’s time to take your drone out for a real trip! But…where can you take your drone? What are the best places to take a drone on vacation?
We’ve done the research for you and identified 5 drone-friendly locations for your next vacation.
Scripps Beach, San Diego, CA
Scripps Beach is a picturesque beach in the greatest US City, San Diego. The massive pier juts into the water offering drone pilots ample opportunities for stunning footage. The beach is nearly a mile long stretching from the La Jolla cliffs to Blacks Beach.

Pro Tip: Arrive in the evening when the crowds thin out and the sun is setting for the best footage.

Also consider: While in the area be sure to check out the Birch Aquarium, a fascinating and easily accessible stop that’s just minutes from Scripps Beach.
Charleston South Carolina
Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina and is rich in pirate history. It’s also a great location to take your drone. Much of the airspace is Class G uncontrolled and nicely accessible to drone pilots.

Rocky Mountains
Rugged mountains, picturesque lakes, craggy rocks…and AMAZING drone footage opportunities. Taking a drone on a Colorado vacation is a great idea.
Be sure to consult local laws when flying your drone in Colorado. There’s a few unique regulations to consider which you can read about here. Keep in mind that Colorado regulations prohibit flying your drone in state parks with a few exceptions. Flying your drone in Colorado also requires you to register your drone which you can do here (for a small fee).

Also consider: visiting the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum. A quirky, but still fun visit to learn all about this famous character.
